This afternoon I observed Reyam Zaia teaching Year 11 Visual Art. It was a great opportunity for me to see how practical lessons are run in comparison to my Mathematics lessons.
Due to the assessment specific nature of this lesson there were not a lot of teaching strategies/behaviour management strategies I found useful to "steal" for my own practice. However, at one stage throughout the lesson Reyam handed a student feedback survey out to her class to fill in. I have completed one of these once this year. It was a reminder to me that collecting student voice is very important in teaching. Providing students with a way to express how they are feeling and to offer feedback for their learning is very important. Personally, I always want to try and teach in a way that appeals to everyone and create learning environments that make all my students feel respected. Student voice is one way of making sure I am catering to all my students needs and I have now created an end of term feedback form for my classes to complete so that I can make any necessary changes for Term Four.
