Celebrating Number and Language

Today I asked my two Year 9 classes to create posters that celebrates number and language. The were required to work collaboratively in small groups to design an informative poster about how to count in another language. Across the two classes I had posters created that covered: Maori, Samoan, Tongan, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Italian, and Spanish.

The students were all actively engaged and excited about the task. It was awesome to see the "expert" students take on a leadership role in teaching their peers about not only the language that they knew, but the culture too. Some groups also took it as an opportunity to learn more about a whole new language.

The posters that the students created were vibrant, informative, and very well presented. They are now hanging on the walls of our classroom which has given the students a sense of ownership and pride of the room.
