Napier - Auckland - Nadi - Singapore - Kuala Lumpar

After spending around 30 hours travelling, including an eight hour layover in Fiji, we finally touched down in a new country, continent, and hemisphere! The flight from Nadi to Singapore was 10 hours. 10 hours of listening to a toddler, yes you heard right, TODDLER crying for the entire flight. It's totally understandable when it comes to crying babies but my goodness never did I expect to see a 3-4 year old child behaving this way. Poor parents!

Our friend, Seb, met us at the airport and then begun his three day taxi driving job. We visited some amazing places during our short stay in this beautiful city!

Day one highlights: lunch in one of KL's largest shopping malls that also had a massive botanical garden running through the centre of it. A visit to the city centre where we got to view the Petronas Towers. Dinner at the most AMAZING restaurant "Din Tai Fung" where I developed my lust for Xiao Long Bao - the most amazing soup dumplings.

Day two highlights: a trip out to the National Elephant Conservation Centre. Before we arrived in Asia I spent a lot of time researching places that we could visit where we could encounter elephants that were being treated ethically. We weren't interested in the generic tourist treatment of these beautiful creatures. The NECC was amazing! The elephants were not bound at all by chains and as scary as it was they were actually walking free around the park (with rangers of course). We were able to feed, pet, and watch the elephants bathe. That's a big bucket list tick!

Day three highlights: a measly 300 step climb, in 30+ degree heat, to visit a Hindu temple on the outskirts of town. I'm talking about the beautiful Batu Caves that are set in a limestone cliff face. Here we got to experience more temple culture - not the biggest fan of wearing a long skirt while exercising - and also hang out with monkeys. There are literally hundreds of the them in the caves and lining the steps. And boy are they feisty. They really don't care and will do anything to scavenge from humans. We also headed back to that epic restaurant I mentioned before and had more Xiao Long Bao.... I had been experiencing some serious cravings.
